Sonic is a Layer 1 EVM-compatible blockchain that emerged from Fantom's rebranding in August 2024, with its mainnet officially launched in December 2024. Designed for high-speed and cost-effective decentralized applications, Sonic can process over 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) with sub-second finality, a significant upgrade from Fantom's previous Opera chain, which handled around 200 TPS.
Key features of Sonic include the Sonic Gateway, a decentralized bridge enabling secure and efficient asset transfers between Ethereum and Sonic, using the network's validators to ensure robust security. Sonic has also introduced the S token, replacing the former FTM token, with a 1:1 migration ratio available via the MySonic portal.
To drive adoption and reward users, Sonic has distributed an airdrop of approximately 190.5 million S tokens. With its focus on speed, security, and developer incentives, Sonic is set to redefine blockchain technology standards.
Sonic positions itself as a next-generation blockchain, combining the speed of Solana with the familiarity and accessibility of EVM-compatible networks. Designed for developers and users alike, Sonic leverages the extensive ecosystem of wallets, explorers, and DeFi tools that EVM networks are known for, making it both fast and developer-friendly.
With the ability to handle over 10,000 transactions per second and near-instant finality, Sonic sets the stage for a "memecoin heaven," where users can launch, trade, and analyze memecoins seamlessly. The network's unmatched speed and scalability ensure that even the most active trading environments run smoothly, offering a perfect playground for memecoin enthusiasts and developers.
